Services for Hospice & Critically Ill Pets

What types of services do you provide?

Will you work with my veterinarian?

Pets are a part of our families, providing us with unconditional love. I am deeply committed to giving back to them with holistic services tailored to their particular needs.

In a very busy world, sometimes pets become critically ill or in a hospice situation and a family member cannot be home with them as often as they would like, or cannot check on them regularly.  I provide a service to set your mind at ease, visiting your pet, providing your pet with comfort or other services based on your request.  I love to sit and hold a pet, and generally the human touch can ease stress and calm your pet during a difficult time.  I  know you want to be the one to do it, but sometimes you can't.  That's why I do what I do.  I want pets to have the opportunity to be surrounded with love if they are injured, ill, or in a hospice situation.

If you have that ever so difficult decision to make, I will be there to help you through your options based on the results of a veterinarian's assessment.  A pet is usually under a lot of stress at this time, even though you may not be able to tell because they are happy to see you or they may be lethargic and seem peaceful.  It is difficult to send a beloved pet to a better place, yet making that decision in itself will one day be comforting.  You will know that you prevented prolonged suffering and misery.  But it can be difficult to go through alone.  I can find services for you, or give you recommendations, help you to decide whether it is best to lay your sweet pet to rest at home or in a veterinarian's office.  If you prefer not to go alone, I will accompany you.  And I will be available afterward since it is a very emotionally draining major life event.
While your pet is convalescing from a major illness or your pet is in a hospice situation, reiki energy and aromatherapy can assist with taking your pet through whatever process is necessary, from calming and stress relief to helping your pet through aromatherapy and the Raindrop Technique.

Yes, I will work with your veterinarian.  And if you don't have time to take an injured or ill pet for rechecks at his or her office, I will transport and assist.  I have the ultimate pet mobile!  It's a Dodge Grand Caravan with stow and go seats, so there is plenty of room for a large dog or a crate or carrier.

Where do you offer these services?

I offer these services in your home, or if your veterinarian permits, at a hospital facility where your pet is being kept.  I will nearly go to the moon and back for an animal in need.  I would do this without charging a fee but then I would not be able to feed my pets.

In what type of situation would I need hospice or critically ill pet services?

Pets who are experiencing a critical illness, have suffered a debilitating injury, or are in a hospice situation can benefit from the services I provide.  I can never ever replace the love and care that you give to your pets, but if you have to be away I can at the least offer love and affection, a human touch, whatever your pet loves.  I have helped with many other pets, and I have suffered the experience of losing a pet and/or having to make difficult and heartbreaking decisions.  Over time I know the joy and laughter my family experiences when we talk about the funny things each one did, but usually with a tear or two intertwined.

Pets who are severly ill, injured, or in a hospice situation may feel depressed and lonely while they are left by themselves.  Taking that fearful or stressful situation away eases a great burden for the pet and for the pet's family.

Reiki for Pets

Will you work with my veterinarian?

At your request I will discuss reiki with your veterinarian.  If you would like for me to report session summaries to your veterinarian I will certainly do so.  You will always receive a copy of my session summary even if you choose that I do not communicate with your veterinarian.  Your veterinarian may help me to better understand the appropriate areas to concentrate that will give your pet the greatest benefit.

How do pets and other animals benefit from Reiki?

Reiki is a hands-on healing method that originated in Japan. Through her hands, the reiki practioner channels healing enery to the animal through a light touch either directly on the body or from a distance. The word Reiki (pronounced “ray-key”) combines two Japanese words that usually translate as “universal life energy”. It is based on the idea that all living beings have life energy flowing through them. Your pets are healthy and balanced, more relaxed and less likely to get sick when they have positively balanced life energy. When life energy is low, they’ll often be less resistant to illness and more easily prone to stress. Reiki does not replace veterinary care, but is a compliment to conventional Western medicine, Chinese medicine, herbal medicine, homeopathy, aromatherapy and all other forms of healing.

Animals, young children, are naturally receptive to the Reiki energy and tend to readily gravitate towards it. Rather than having the practitioner’s hands directly on them, some pets may initially prefer to experience the energy from a slight distance.

My reiki sessions for pets typically can last 15-45 minutes. Like my other services, I tailor the sessions to the pet's individual needs as well as yours.  You can stay in the room or reiki area for the entire session or as you wish.

If you would like more information, go to this page , or for more information or to schedule a session, please use the " contact " page and I will reply as soon as possible but most likely within 24 hours.

Why do you choose to give reiki to pets?

From the time I was a young child, I gravitated toward animals and they gravitated toward me.  Though I was young and full of a child's energy that rarely ceased, nothing could calm me like looking into an animal's eyes.  My first experiences with what I would now call reiki occurred on my grandparents' farm in Springfield, Virginia.  I noticed how not only I became calm, but the animals became calm with eye contact as well.  I thought they could feel what was in my heart.  I was able to calm and "collect" feral cats and kittens that no one else could come close to, and I noticed how attracted they were to human touch and splendid calm if they were comfortable with coming to me, even though they were "wild".  There were skeptics, but my parents were certain that this was true, and with fondest memories I thank them for believing in me.

I had, and have, the deepest compassion for animals and I think they know this.

Aromatherapy for Pets

Overview of Aromatherapy for Pets

What types of Aromatherapy do you offer for pets?

Aromatherapy for animals is not something new.  It's been around for ages.  Yet, it feels new for western civilization.  Herbs and extracts, essential oils and other natural remedies have been used for centuries.  They are not designed to replace traditional medical treatment with your doctor, pediatrician or veterinarian.  However, they can work wonders for minor issues or in conjunction with the advice and treatment of medical professionals.  Essential oils do not just have nice scents, they have properties that can help to treat illness, ease the suffering of illness, or simply calm a pet such as one that is afraid of thunderstorms.  Many essential oils are associated with the holistic treatment of certain conditions.

If you would like more information please go here, or for more information or to schedule a session please use the " contact" page and I will reply as soon as possible but most likely within 24 hours.
There are several types of aromatherapy for pets from diffusion to direct application of essential oils.  The oils should nearly always be diluted, and there are certain steps I will take to make sure your pet is safe and comfortable with the essential oils chosen with your input.  There is also a technique, called the Raindrop Technique, that is a hands-on application by "petting" and animals generally love this with what I call the "human touch factor".  Each animal has essential oils that are "OK" for the particular species, and there are essential oils that can be safe for one species and toxic for another.  There are suggested oils for the Raindrop Technique, but other oils can be added or substituted depending on the animal's physical and psychological state.

I love all creatures great and small and I will be very loving and patient with your pet, that is a promise.
